Dec 12 Sound Healing in Sacramento

Sound Healing Afternoon Workshop
December 12, 2011  1-4 pm
Judy's South Natomas home

Ive been in Pittsburgh PA helping out with a new granddaughter for the past month and it has been a very special kind of Qigong retreat for me as I attach deeply to both the pure sweet energy of a newborn and the vivacious tenacious energy of a 2.5 year old.

One of the treats that has come, is the benefits of practicing the Sound Healing with the children.  Especially Estelle whose tiny digestive system is often uncomfortable with gas and bubbles, and the ways of the new world outside the womb brings its adjustment challenges.  She quiets right away when I bring the vibrations of the sounds linked deeply with my love into her absorbent energy field.  Lately she has had some kind of issue with her eyes (tear ducts) and the Heart Sounds quiet her quickly and the irritation seems to have passed rapidly.  When she is fussy after eating, or hungry and mommy is busy, the digestive system sounds quiet her most every time.   The other day Peter threw a two year old tantrum at nap time and I finally just held him took him to the rocker and began with the sounds, he was asleep in my arms before I finished, relaxed and peaceful.  All the chanting has kept me at ease and comfortable while being away from home.  A contrast to previous visits here I got homesick and longed for my normal energy fixes of my garden, prison work and Qi teaching.

This Sound Healing technology is a powerful tool for personal transformation, emotional well being and energetic harmonization.  It moves below the level of the dramas and traumas provoking our emotional reactions and harmonizes the energy field eager to find its naturally healthy patterns.  This has been a deep focus of my Qigong studies this year.  In September I finished a 6 month project of organizing the Mingtong's teachings into a double CD set with 36 page color pamphlet.  This is now giving people the opportunity to learn this practice without attending a workshop (although I always recommend that).  You can purchase from the Chi Center or from me for $30.

All this to say that I'll be teaching an introduction to the Sound Healing Sunday afternoon December 12 from 1-4 at my home.  Sliding scale $20-$60. Free Sound Healing Booklet with CD's for the first 10 registrations.  I'm eager to share this to help you to balance the challenges and the gifts of the holiday season and give you an incredible practice to bless your new year!  This afternoon together will be all you need to get started.

I'm eager to hear from any of you who would like to study QiGong with me this winter.  Please let me know your interest and availability and I will seek to put together some classes to meet your needs.

Chifully, Judy
Haola Blessings upon your Holidays and 2011!

fullness of our being

This is what I was seeking words for in class this weekend (it is from the Daily OM):
May 10, 2010
The Paradox of Spirit
Language of the Soul
The self is not small or big but is both at the same time. Our spirit is like a drop in the ocean of spiritual energy.

Each of us has a spiritual self that animates our bodies and infuses our thoughts and feelings. Our language is limited to the world we know for descriptions of something that perhaps cannot be fully comprehended by the human mind. Therefore, only metaphors approach the expressions that give us a true sense of our spiritual nature. The paradox lies in opposing concepts, all of which are true at the same time. And in harmonizing the opposites, we begin to know the wonders of the spirit.

The self is not small or big but is both at the same time. Our spirit is like a drop in the ocean of spiritual energy. Although our spirit seems like a small, disconnected part of a larger whole, it is still made of the same things and can become part of the vast ocean once again. Our individual spirit seems to inhabit our bodies like a passenger in a vehicle but at the same time is not bound by our bodies. Spirits can reach across the miles to touch the heart of a loved one or expand to become one with the universe. We may feel small and perhaps insignificantly young when we look up at the stars, but we are made of the same basic elements. Perhaps looking at the stars is merely a reflection of what is going on within each atom and cell of our being. We are a universe within a universe. Our spirits are ever renewing, yet ageless and eternal. So the self is not new or old but both at once.

So our spiritual self is not small or big, new or old. We may experience life as good and bad, right and wrong, happy and sad, but this is the experience of the material world of dualities, not the truth of our spiritual nature. By going within to touch the eternal and changeless energy at our center, we can go beyond the contrasting metaphors to the experience of oneness. And in that connection we can know big and small, new and old, movement and stillness. By accepting the paradox of spirit, we open ourselves to the fullness of our own being.

Spinal QiGong workshop Handouts

Thanks for the lovely afternoon in the healing chifield of Yoga Hive.  Here are the links about the movements we learned today.  If anything doesn't work or is confusing please let me know and I'll fix it.   I'll be in town until Dec 1 and if you would like to pursue any further Qigong, please call me on my cell at 916-600-8241.  Let Kimberly know what you thought and if you want to encourage us to do something the next time I visit. I hope I have remembered everything. Haola!

We started with visualizing the spine with the luminosity of a fetus still in the womb, with all that creative potential still alive within your spine today.

We practiced a variation of the Inner Smile smiling into the spine.  Notes about Inner Smile.  Free Internet book on the Inner Smile.  Visual images for Inner Smile practice with organs.

Standing we reviewed the Standing Meditation posture and then set the chi field.
Then we proceeded with Opening to Six Directions.  This is an easy flow to learn and practice on your own.  Next we open the spine in its three primary ways of moving, forward and back (Description, visual standing, visuals seated and lying down), side to side and rotating (Ringing the Gong).

Introduction to QiGong for Pittsburgh PA

This weekend, Saturday, November 13 and 14 I will be sharing some of my favorite Qigong practices to my new friends at the Yoga Hive on Penn Ave.

Qi Gong  (also spelled Chi, procounced Chee) Gong (also spelled Kung)

Qi= life force energy
Gong = cultivation
Qi gong is the cultivation of our life force energy
It is a large body of practices that have been practiced for 5,000 years in China leading to long life and vitality.  Qi gong is also a system of healing and a spiritual approach to life based on the free flow of creative energy circulating in all dimensions of life.  It brings opposites into balance creating harmony.

Qi gong practice we will share on Saturday include: .
Meditation:  Setting the Qi Field, and the Inner Smile
Breath:  Ocean Breathing, and the Double Inhale practice.
Sitting:  Activating the Three Centers
Standing:  Standing like a Tree and  Shaking the Cosmos
Moving:  Opening to Six Directions, Tracing the Energy Channels, Gathering Chi, and other favorites
Chanting:  Haola (manifestation of perfection)

Qi gong practices we will share on Sunday will focus on opening the body and especially the spinal column to receive more creative energy or Qi / chi.  These spinal movements will complement any Yoga practice engaging a different and complimentary dynamic.  These practices will build your awareness of the circulation of energy on all dimensions of your being as we focus on the physical.

September 25 Healing Event

We have a fabulous event coming up on Saturday Sept 25th.   Mingtong will be facilitating a day and evening of Sound Healing for emotional transformation.  This is the quickest, most effective way I've ever experienced of healing negative emotions -- fear, worry, anger, grief and closed-heartedness.    Without psychological processing.  An amazing tool to have in these times of personal and social challenges.  Sound Healing is a tried and true self-healing technology based on ancient wisdom.  The day (10 - 5 pm) will offer qigong movement to awaken your body and release pain and stress, teachings on Sound Healing  and Sound Healing practice.  The evening (7 - 9:30 pm) will focus mainly on Sound Healing practice.

Special guest James Baraz (author of Awakening Joy) will join Mingtong during the day.  There will also be Laughter Yoga and a Shamanic Journey.  Silvia Nakkach, pioneer in using sacred sound for the transformation of consciousness, will join Mingtong for the evening program.

Not to be missed.  AND you can come at a two for one price for the evening program if you register on line now.  ($30 for two)  chicenter.com.

More research on benefits

This was cliped from Ken Cohen's latest newsletter:   New Research

Harvard University Medical School has just published a report on “The Health Benefits of Tai Chi” that calls Tai Chi “medication in motion.” Since Tai Chi is a subset of Qigong, all of this information applies to Qigong as well. It cites research for “No Pain, Big Gains” including improvements in muscle strength, flexibility, balance, and aerobic conditioning. Under the category “Tai Chi for Medical Conditions” it recommends Tai Chi as complementary therapy for arthritis, low bone density, breast cancer, heart disease, heart failure, hypertension, Parkinson’s disease, sleep problems, and stroke. You can read the entire report at http://www.health.harvard.edu/newsletters/Harvard_Womens_Health_Watch/2009/May/The-health-benefits-of-tai-chi?print=1

As we would expect from a conservative publication, Harvard has only noted information supported by peer-reviewed publication or research. It is important to realize, however, that the range of effective applications far, far exceeds this report,...

Dear chi friends,
I have been quiet lately on the classes front (continuing to teach in the prisons) because I have been focused on ghost writing for our Qigong teacher Mingtong Gu. I have been really enjoying organizing his audio files into written materials and am just completing a 36 page booklet with two cd's to aid beginning students with the powerful emotional transformation Five Organ Integrative Sound Healing as well as simply beautiful chants and meditation practices that have engaged me so for the past years. All this material is coming out of the medicine-less hospital in China with its 95% effective rate of healing major illnesses. see www.chicenter.com

The debut of my new material and more importantly a powerful chi field of healing and joy will be September 25, 2010. At the Marine Civic Center, it will be hundreds of people gathered to activate each others healing and the healing of all, as we learn the sound healing and powerful movements (the spinal bone marrow cultivation for sure). There are other dynamic presenters besides Mingtong too. I have attached the flyer. There is both a day and an evening program. Go for both! We can shift the energy dynamics and move into a healthy kind society.  link: http://www.chicenter.com/Sept25

Julie, who has been coming into Folsom prison with me to help teach QiGong is taking a van down and has room for 5 more in it. Im happy to be a clearing point for car pools as well.

There is a two for one offer for any of my students as the purpose is to generate a lot of high quality intention energy towards helping all of society shift off their old stuck emotional and physical patterns that inhibit to patterns of free flowing energy, healing and peace. Email me for the code.

Sacramento Sound Healing offering:
Because this practice is moving so strongly for me, I'll be happy to share it with you Monday evenings. Sept 13, 20, 27, Oct 4, 11, 18. Pay what you can afford. I'll share Sound Healing, Inner Smile, and some of the spinal opening movements that I have found so powerful. Email me to confirm attendance and get directions to my home.

Teaching in prison

Wisdom Healing Qigong activates our Ultimate Goodness. Through the practices, through the teachings, through the community and most importantly through the Chi field our Divine Purpose gets activated, energized and realized.

When I teach Qigong in our prisons, we are activating the energy of all creation, the Hun Yuan Chi, the oneness within all beings, in all of society. This energy of the Goodness of Life leaves no one rejected, isolated or abandoned. Together we are releasing the blockages and encouraging a very deep flow of the energy of freedom within the men’s physical cells and within their life confined to cells. We are cultivating a flow of integrated energy inside the walls where our society has abandoned and discarded those who have been broken and have broken the rules. Together we manifest and express our integral part of the whole fabric of society; a truth we must recognize to put an end to the cycles of crime and punishment.

If a person is willing, it doesn’t take much to activate this energy flow. If a person is willing to practice with dedication, old patterns of behavior and emotional trauma as well as addiction and other illness patterns are replaced with healthy new patterns harmonized with the divine potential within us all. This ancient science of healing and wholeness has been around for thousands of years, its time to apply it to the people living with daily trauma and repression, victims and perpetrators alike.

More Healing Stories and Videos

Wisdom Healing Qigong generates an amazing number of healing stories, because it is combines the science of transformation, with diligent practice and the activation of a very powerful healing Chi field.  Just reading these stories and imagining that the same could happen for you will bring you into this healing community as well.
My own inspiration was the book: 101 Miracles, stories from the medicine-less hospital in China.  From that book I taught myself the form and practiced everyday for a year.  That was more than 10 years ago, now I have met and studied with several Zhineng Qigong teachers and am loving the depth and integration that this Qigong is providing for my life and my abilities as a Qigong teacher no matter what form I am teaching.

Be inspired by these healing stories.  The same is possible for each of us! Haola!

Essentials of Qigong

“We must keep returning to the Most Important Thing:
the fundamental principles and themes
that underlie all Qigong training:

How can I relax?
How do I breathe?
How can I live as a whole human being -
my mind, body and spirit integrated?
Am I aware of myself and my place in the universe?
How can I learn to live more fully and
remember to appreciate being alive?”

Political applications of chi field learnings

Examples and stories from experiences often teach a new concept, like the chi field, easier than theoretical essays.  Here are three stories from experiences I had last week of it's deep presence in my life and then a reflection as I applied these lessons into an contemplative prayer for the political campaign of my husband.  Originally posted on my Prison QiGong Blog.

What is a chi field?

Energy is a raw material until given purpose.  With purpose, energy brings all manner of things into creation, and destroys all manner of things too. As the purpose behind any organization of energy shifts so to does the nature of that energy pattern’s appearance and activities.  Energy organizes to function as a liver in one way and as a bone in another.

The fullness of this essay is on my Prison Qigong blog....
here is the conclusion...

In our Qigong practice, as we purposefully seek to maximize the potential of our life force energy and come into harmony with the flow of the universe, we cultivate the alignment of our chi field (personal purpose) with The Chi Field (Divine Potential).  Through these practices we intentionally merge our personal energy, in all the ways it is organized and functioning, with the clear, clean energy at the center of creation.  When it is our purpose to harmonize in this manner, our energy naturally optimizes in a beneficial way.  Synchronizing our personal energy to the source of life, we receive life in its richest possible expression.

Tina's taking control of her healing!

Congratulations Tina on your first 100 Day Gong!!  Tina is a student who has traveled up from Stockton for just four classes, and has taken up a dedicated practice for 114 days now!  Haola! In that short time she has made very strong progress on her heart's desire to regain her sight and kidney function which have been challenged by her diabetes.

Here is her report:
I had an eye exam in early March and have some good news.  I have only a trace of glaucoma left in my eyes.  Isn't that wonderful.  I am hoping the next time I will be completely healed from that disease.
My kidney story is that I went to see my doctor for other reasons and found out  I had kidney damage with only 50 % function.  Disappointed I looked for a different healing way and that is when I found Chi and you.  I started doing this on Jan. 1 2010 and on Feb. 1 I had lab work and found out my kidneys were normal again.  I was thrilled.
I still do chi for my entire body.  I'm proud that I have done this.  I feel like I have finally taken control of my life.
Haola Tina!!!!

How to turn the challenge into opportunity

While we are facing all the challenges of life, we often resist the challenge without realizing the truth of life: life without challenges doesn't exist -- it is even true for Saints and Awakened ones. The difference is that realized ones have cultivated deep inner resource to turn challenges into power and wisdom. In its true sense, challenge is an opportunity for expanding ourselves.

As we resist any challenge, we cause unnecessary contraction of energy -- it is frozen like water frozen into ice. As we resist pain, it causes suffering on the top of pain. As we resist fear, we become stuck while energy freezes in the kidney system.  As we accept challenges as a part of life and learning, we let go of the past pattern of resistance and contraction that cause the stagnation of life energy in the body.

Qigong allows us to go deep into the energy, which is the life force, underlining the challenging experience and feelings --- use the movement to free the stagnated energy in the pain, use the sound to free the energy suppressed in the challenging emotions like fear, and use the visualization to free the energy programmed in the old story of dis-eases.

When the energy is stuck, lacking of aliveness, flow, purpose and harmony, we experience dis-eases and un-fulfillment. When the energy is fully experienced and moving to the next expression, we experience well-being and fulfillment.

dipping into the Qi field

This from my freind and co-teacher, Vivi:
I notice that with Spring in the air there is a tendency to get caught up in a whirlwind of events, ideas, creative impulses -- all wonderful to be sure, but a good time to take a moment to breathe and notice what's going on inside the body.  This is where our health, happiness and awakening occur.  Are we giving ourselves time to be with ourselves.  I have been reminding myself that this is my priority.  All the must-dos will get done so much more smoothly and with great ease if I feel into my body  throughout the day and put aside some time for my practice.    If you notice your practice has not been happening, be gentle with yourself.  Grateful that you've noticed, and ask yourself what feels right for you.  Things change and sometimes half an hour of focused practice is more beneficial that an hour of hurried scattered practice.  Five minutes of dipping into the qi field can be a tremendous pick-me-up.  Practicing for just a few minutes helps to integrate qi gong into your life.  A couple of minutes of lachi on the whole body, arms at side, when standing in line.  When irritated, feel into where there's holding in the body, and try doing the inner smile into that place, visualizing  a waterfall of smiling healing energy flowing into the contracted spot and relaxing, releasing the blockage into the ocean of life around you.

flowing into form

Sent by another teacher friend: I am reminded that Taoism was developed neither as a philosophy or religion but a system of describing existence. Taoism sets forth the intentions of the chi, the life force, or intrinsic energy of all things. Living with the qi is to live in harmony with nature; to live spontaneously; and to unite with the creative forces of the universe.

"The clouds pass and the rain does its work, and all individual beings flow into their forms" (I Ching)

This also gives us a reason to practice, and reminds me of the beauty of "Passing Clouds" in the darkness of early morning....

Thanks for the magazines left at the last teacher's meeting! -Judy {the above synthesized from an article by Portia Brockway in The Empty Vessel, 2002}

Using the Huan Yin Ling Tong Chant

I love to chant this chant, and have used it to fall back asleep, to go to sleep and just in walking in and out of the prison. Once I heard Mingtong tell the story about Jamine falling off his changing table new ways of using the chant opened up that I could apply easily as both my nearly two year old grandsons are frequently stumbling and falling. I have prayed (asked the chi field) that it be the first thing I think of when that happens, and it comes into my head pretty quick.
It works like a "magic spell." The first time Jack looked up at me with the most curious look in his face and then dusted himself off and went on his way... the next time he didn't even glance my way.... With Peter, he started a little fuss (it was a big fall) and then thought better of it.... When I was at the playground with a little friend of Peter's and her mother, the little girl whacked her head on the swing and the mom went into a tizzy. We talked some and I taught her the chant... She was very grateful for something positive to do, as she knew that her own reaction was not helping her daughter learn to cope.
When I fell down the stairs (I never fall) my ankle was really letting me know it had been traumatized, I just lay on the grass, smiled at my ankle and chanted, (under my breath cause my daughter was there) and visualized flowing energy adjusting any injury back into its natural state quickly and efficiently... I rested and then after 5-10 min got up and the ankle was fine... The next morning my back was all out of whack, maybe next time I'll invite a general bath from the chant, rather than being so focused on what "I feel the healing energy ought to do"....

Thursday, March 25, 2010

In an email correspondence with a student she shared this quote in closing:
Muhammad: Even if you cannot do it perfectly, be steadfast on the straight path.
and said, "I remember you said at the first workshop that there is not a bad or wrong way to do QiGong, but just try something. Thanks!"

What an honor to be remembered alongside such a prophet. My reflection back:
"I had a very powerful practice today inside prison, the chi doesn't judge us by our past or our performance, our skill or our technique, or even which form we enjoy ... how much of this infinite, unconditional flow we can participate in at any given time seems more to do with the our level of sincerity, and level of tension.... so relax and do my best ... is the best motto I know...Haola!

Testimonial to life, even in death

Here is an email I received today regarding one of the participants in our Chi Healing Group at the Intensive, she was a marvelous spirit, and so dedicated to being all she could be! Healing does not always mean curing, and life has its natural ends, let us make the most of each day and do what we can (our QiGong practice) to insure the high quality of the remainder of our days! Haola

Dear Ones,

Our beloved Helen Ramstad-Lane passed away peacefully last week, surrounded in love with her husband, Derek, and daughter, Heather.

Helen came to the first Healing Intensive Retreat at the Dakini Temple in Richmond after she was given a few months to live with pancreatic cancer. Her spirit and energy increased with her dedication and commitment to the Qigong practice, expanding both the quality and quantity of her life, living almost a year beyond her prognosis.

Her doctor was so amazed by her progress that he asked her for an hour appointment with her so she could tell him what she had done to increase her energy, spirit and life span!

Helen’s inspiring courage, perseverance and humor is a continuing model of grace and grit for all of us. Her radiant presence illuminated each of us with her gusto for living life to the fullest in each moment.

Please join us in blessing her beautiful spirit as she moves on peacefully into the ocean of light, a refuge for all, and to a New Beginning.

Haola,

Mingtong, Linling , Gina and the Chi Community

Resting is NOT Quiting

Resting deeply is true QiGong practice. Where do we get the perception that we must always be Doing something to make progress? No so. If the active, outward nature of your practice, and indeed your life, is not balanced with receptive, inward nature… alas
thee is going to be off kilter.

When we rest deeply we are letting the healing energy flow inward, to drench our cells, our organs and glands, our every tissue and attitude with healing chi. During the active side of our practice we make our best effort, we do our best with the form. Then we have the opportunity to do our best with the time to rest, surrendering our healing into the QiField, opening our mind and body to the healing energies creative circulation within us. Many of us need much more practice resting, trusting the passive side of the healing process, inviting the miracles to happen when our eyes are closed, our hands are empty, our mind vacant.

What to do when your resting? Feel your energy body inward. Enjoy your breath. Fall asleep. The only requirement is NO Quiting. Don’t sign off, don’t check out. Participate in your surrendering, in your trusting, in your feeling the energy moving inside you.
Enjoy your rest!

Do your best! Don’t stress!

Do your best! Don’t stress!
The first and perhaps most important benefit from practicing any forms of QiGong is stress reduction. We start to yawn, breathe easier, slow down and open up to new possibilities. One of those possibilities is that life doesn’t have to be so difficult. We can enter into an experiment with the energy that sustains all life and discover it will sustain us too, today, in the middle of whatever story that has us all tied up.

So begin where you can, with whatever you know. Never been to a class? Don’t have time? Well thanks for taking the time to read this! Haola! (All is well, so be it!) Jump over to my YouTube channel (link on the left) and explore, see someone moving, try it yourself. Copy and experiment.

If you are practicing a form I’ve taught you, awesome! Don’t stress. Do your best. I was up in Oregon House teaching on Sunday and quite a large number of students there are dedicated daily practitioners. They are getting the kind of results we all wish for. AND we discovered that some of the folks who had gotten superior results were technically doing it “wrong”. Wrong form, right attitude. Wow, and now that we made the form adjustments, the chi (Qi) will be flowing even stronger.

The point is, the universe knows when you are doing your best. You can’t do any better than your best. If you’re not feeling well, your best may very well be to lie in bed and watch the video imagining you are practicing. Don’t give yourself a hard time (that thwarts the chi flow!), Relax! Enjoy! That’s the way the chi loves to flow!

Something is better than nothing, experimenting is better than nothing. Give your practice a sincere best effort and you’ll be stunned at the results.

The next ten days I will be assisting my teacher Mingtong Gu at an Intensive Healing Retreat in Sonoma. I’m hoping to capture some of what opens up for me here in the blog… If you’d like me to send you some healing energy from this powerful QiField, just ask!!
